Our Story, Our Vision, Our Why

NCA is a non‐public school specializing in religious release time training for school grades 9-12.

Belief and Values
The Mission of the NorthStar Christian Academy is to train students to independently and critically think while providing students with the opportunity to embrace a Christ-centered Biblical worldview as true and as the foundation for learning.

NorthStar Christian Academy Statement of Belief
Built on the foundation of the Bible (God’s infallible Word) and in full alignment with the apostle’s creed, we affirm the following summary of the Christian faith.

God: There is one infinite, holy, loving, personal God who speaks to us in Scripture and reveals Himself to us in His acts of creation, salvation, and renewal, as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. As finite human beings created in God’s image, we declare that it is our purpose and privilege to worship, honor, serve, and obey Him.

Creation: The world belongs to God, who created it and faithfully sustains it by His providence. Creation is the theater of God’s glory, displaying His power and majesty. God calls us to discover creation’s resources, to receive these gifts with thanksgiving and delight, and to use them wisely as stewards and caretakers who are responsible to God and to our neighbor.

Sin: Our ability to carry out our human calling to honor God, serve our neighbor, and care for the creation is marred by the corrosive effects of sin, which touch every part of life. When our first parents listened to Satan’s lie, questioned God’s Word, and rebelled against Him, they brought His judgment upon themselves, their descendants and creation. Separation from God, as well as brokenness, disease, hate, pride, abuse of creation, and ultimately death are the inevitable consequences of sin in our world.

Covenant: However, God has not rejected or abandoned His world but has turned to it in love. He gave the rainbow sign to Noah as a pledge of His promise to care for all creatures. He made a covenant with Abraham, promising to be a faithful God to Him and His children, and through them to bless all nations. Through His servant Moses, God disclosed His law for the human community, promising rich blessings as the fruit of obedience. God always keeps His promises. We acknowledge with gratitude and joy that He is our God and the God of our children, that we are His people, and that this is His world.

Redemption: As He promised, God in love sent Jesus Christ into the world to save it from sin and its consequences. The atoning death of the Son of God is the only payment for the debt of human sin, and Christ’s resurrection is the only liberation from the powers of evil and death. The victorious Lord sends the Holy Spirit to create faith, cleanse and renew hearts, and build a community of love and holiness. It is the community’s mission to proclaim and live this good news and to make disciples of the nations.

Kingdom of God: Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords. His Kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and He reigns over all things for our good. To be a citizen of this kingdom is a privilege, a joy, and a responsibility. Led by His Spirit, we place our every thought, word, and deed in the service of Christ’s present and coming reign, and we live daily in the confident hope of His triumphant return.

Jay-JensonJay Jenson
Academy Director

His educational/ministry background: Jay answered the Lord’s call on his life over 7 years ago when he accepted the position of Director of Ministry for LifeRight Outreach in Alexandria, Mn. His responsibilities included providing Christian leadership, education and mentoring to men and women who struggle with significant life issues (i.e. addiction, prison, homelessness etc.) At the beginning of 2015, Jay stepped out in faith and launched a new church plant in Alexandria called, The Church: He currently serves as Lead Pastor. Prior to going into ministry, Jay spent 20 years in the Investment Services Industry and is an 8 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

His family life: Jay and his beautiful wife, Rochelle, have been married almost 10 years. Jay has 6 children ranging from 34 down to 13, and three amazing grandchildren. As a family, the Jenson’s love the outdoors, motorcycling, and watching their children compete or perform in their varied activities. Jay is also a fitness enthusiast and an avid weightlifter.

What brought him to NorthStar: Jay sees NorthStar Christian Academy as vital component to children receiving the education necessary for them to be able to critically think about, determine and defend what they truly believe. He believes, it will be a safe learning environment where students can ask and think through the many challenging questions they wrestle with everyday trying to determine what the truth is. It will also be a place where students will see and experience the authentic love of Christ lived out through the hands and feet of the amazing NCA team of teachers and volunteers. Jay also believes NCA can be a platform for all of our area churches to come together in unity and promote the furthering of Biblically-based Christian education for the student in their congregations.

His life verse is: Jay has many life verses but a couple he carries constantly are: 1) “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians. 2:20). 2) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your path straight” (Proverbs 3:5-6).

If he could choose his epitaph, it would be: He loved his God with all of his heart, his mind, his soul and his strength. He loved his neighbor as himself and he served the Lord all the days of his life! AND “I told you I didn’t feel good!”

Dee-NovotnyDee Novotny
Instructor

Her educational/ministry background: Dee received her B.S. degree in Mathematics from Southwest State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She went on to earn her teaching certification from NDSU. She taught and coached at Henning High School for 2 years before pursuing a Doctor of Chiropractic from Northwestern College of Chiropractic. She then practiced for 7 years. For the past 20 years Dee has been substitute teaching and coaching at DMS and AAHS. She is also an FCA volunteer and attends Alexandria Covenant Church.

Her family life: Dee has been married to her amazing husband, Larry, for 29 years. She has two children: Brynn (21), who attends Arizona State University. And Toby (17), who attends AAHS.

What brought her to NorthStar: Dee’s heart’s desire is for people and students to seek and know the Lord and follow him, because he is, "The way, the truth, and the life" and he has come to give us a full, rich life now and for eternity. She is excited that the students attending Northstar will be presented with facts and ideas which are not openly allowed in public schools. This will allow them to critically think and respond with freedom, and give them tools to joyfully, and purposefully live their lives.

Her life verse is: "Jesus said, 'The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy; but I have come that you might have life and life to the full'" (John 10:10).

If she could choose her epitaph, it would be: The Lord was her rock, light, and salvation.
