ALEXANDRIA – The Northstar Knights Hockey Team continued their winning streak after a weekend homestand. With the Des Moines Buccaneers AAA in town, the Knights captured both games to get their record to a sparkling 25-0.
Saturday night’s game Got off to an early Knights lead, with Brody Lucas scoring five and half minutes into the contest. Talon Sigurdson scored in the final minute of the first period to increase the Knights’ lead to two. The Buccaneers scored early in the second to cut the lead in half, but Lucas got his second of the night early in the third for insurance. Des Moines would score again late in the third, but Collin Soderholm’s excellent play of 31 saves on 33 shots helped secure the victory for the Knights. Clayton Brown, Anthony Menghini, Ben Strinden, KJ Hjlem, and Truett Olson added assists in the win.
Sunday’s noon matinee saw the Knights jump to an early lead again with a  Tyler Ryder goal five and a half minutes in. Des Moines would tie the game six minutes later to end the scoring in the first. The Knights capitalized on the powerplay halfway through the third on a Jacob Napier point shot off another assist on the weekend for Olson, but again Des Moines would tie the game minutes later. However, Talon Sigurdson got the go ahead goal early in the third period to put the Knights up for good, and added his second assist of the day on Anthony Menghini’s empty net goal with 13 seconds to go. Menghini also added an assist on the day. Camdyn Barber continued the Knights’ goaltending hot streak with 24 saves on 26 shots.
The Knights will be on the road this coming weekend to host the Rink Academy from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Saturday’s game will be at the Sanford Center in Bemidji at 1:30, and at noon on Sunday in Grand Forks, ND at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
