The Northstar Knights are happy to announce that 2020 graduates Nate Albers (forward, McKinney, TX) and Truett Olson (forward, Alexandria, MN) have committed to play ACHA D1 ice hockey at Liberty University.

Both players will enlist as freshmen for the 2021-22 campaign.

Albers and Olson have had linear paths to Liberty since coming to Northstar in its first year of existence. After two years playing with the Knights, both players went on to North American Hockey League teams – Albers signing a tender with the Chippewa Steel, and Olson getting drafted by the Johnstown Tomahawks – before joining the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. When the SJHL shut down indefinitely, they packed their bags for Florida to join the Tampa Bay Juniors of the United States Premier Hockey League’s Premier Division.

Albers came to Northstar in the inaugural 2018-19 campaign, playing in 55 games and registering seven goals and seven assists. His final year with the Knights had him as an assistant captain for the team, once again playing in 55 games and posting nine goals and 13 assists. In his first year of juniors, he played four games with the Notre Dame Hounds, collecting four penalty minutes, and currently has a goal and two assists with the Tampa Bay Juniors. Albers will be joining his brother Zak, currently a sophomore, on the Flames’ hockey team.

Olson, an Alexandria native, was also a ground-floor member of the Knights. His first season saw him post six goals and ten assists in 56 games. His second season almost had him double his point total with 20 goals and 11 assists in 55 games. This year, Olson had two goals and two assists in five games with the Notre Dame Hounds, and currently has two goals and two assists in eight games with the Tampa Bay Juniors.

Congratulations to both Nate and Truett, and best of luck in the rest of this season and beyond!
